Say hello to my 15-year-old miniature dachshund Lillie. This fur baby, whom I love immensely, has gone through 10 years of occasional back pain due to IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease). I have tried different products over the years, but this is what this adorable and stubborn dog liked most.

- Mambe blankets (Amazon link) have saved me from washing our couch covers many times due to Lillie’s accidents, mainly from spite and/or anxiety. She is a dachshund; no other words are needed. These waterproof blankets are lovely because they don’t make crunchy noises sitting on them and soften more over time. She has snored many days on these blankets, and so has her dad.
- I finally found something that’s made for older dogs (11+)! Lillie’s stomach loves Science Diet (Amazon link). She had some issues as she aged, so we had to work with her vet to find the right combination. We mix this in with her soft food at every meal. Check with your vet to see what is best for your dog.
- Flashback from Lamb Chop‘s Play-Along (Amazon link) from the 90’s! Sherri Lewis provided “The Song That Never Ends” to happy parents everywhere. Lillie loves this toy because it is fun to play with and can be used as a pillow; it’s a win-win for this pup.
- Lillie has back problems, like many other dachshunds do, so jumping and using stairs is prevented as much as possible in my house. Lillie likes this Pet Gear ramp (Amazon link) because the supertraX mat provides a good grip, making it easy to go up and down the couch. This ramp is easy to assemble and clean, making a dog mom happy.
- Lillie loves playing fetch, even as an elderly lady. Dachshunds are out to destroy, so some toys don’t cut for this little fierce, 12-pound demolisher. These squeaking Kong tennis balls (Amazon link) last longer before this dachshund dominates that poor squeaky ball.
- As dogs age, prescribed soft food isn’t a surprise. Due to Lillie’s size, she only uses a third of a can per meal. These silicon can covers (Amazon link) keep us from having to move canned food into another container. Great solution for saving time and containers!
If you want some dog Halloween and fall fun, you can head to costumes, outfits, or bandanas/ bowties!
If you would like to help other dogs, National Mill Dog Rescue has a running wish list for products on Amazon they need to help care for the dogs they rescue and re-home. I do not get any commission for this; I love their mission! All dogs deserve a happy home!!
