Toys
Tennis balls
When it comes to treating our furry pals, you can’t go wrong with getting them a new toy for Christmas. Every year, my little dachshund would get Kong tennis balls ( Amazon link ) in her stocking, and she absolutely loved them! The moment she spotted one, she’d go crazy with excitement, bouncing all over the living room. She’d grab each ball and scatter them all around. With dachshunds, the mission is to find the squeak and take it out ASAP, which is why we stick to Kong products – they’re more durable than others we’ve tried in the past. It warms my heart to see my pup so happy, and these tennis balls have kept her entertained year after year!
Kong Toys
Kong toys are awesome for dachshunds, especially those little rascals who love to chew everything in sight. These toys are super strong and made of tough materials that can handle my dachshund’s intense chewing sessions. They come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, so they’re great for dogs of any size. If you give your dachshund Kong toys as Christmas presents, you’ll be giving them a toy that will last for ages, not just a few days. And the best part? Kong toys ( Amazon link ) aren’t just durable, they also provide mental stimulation for your dog. You can stuff them with treats to keep your furry buddy entertained for hours! 🐾🎁
Lamb Chop
As my dogs got older, they became less feisty with their toys. Lamb Chop, a cute little stuffed animal, was a big hit in our home. I was excited to bring back this classic 80’s TV show, but this time it was all for the happiness of my furry friends. You can also find similar holiday special Lamb Chop toys, like the Lamb Chop with Santa hat standing version or the Holiday Lamb Chop ( Amazon links ), which would make awesome additions to a Christmas stocking.
Bonus!
My parents have these two adorable shih tzus, and each of them has their favorite toy that they get upgraded every Christmas in their stockings. Zoey is all about playing with ropes every evening, so she’s always thrilled to get new ones each year. If your dog is into ropes too, you might like this here is a similar idea ( Amazon link ) that offers different types of ropes for small dogs. On the other hand, Chewy, the older one, sees toys more as a source of comfort. He loves having his stuffed animal buddies around and doesn’t really play with them much. He’s into stuffed animals like these loofa dogs( Amazon link ).
Treats
Rawhides & Bully Sticks
So, dogs are super excited for the holiday season because of all the treats, right? My little dachshund Murphy was all about these yummy treats like rawhides and bully sticks (check them out on Amazon) – those were his absolute faves! Every year, we’d make sure to stuff their stockings with these treats for him and his sister. Murphy was always on a mission to grab as many as he could before we kept them out of his reach. These chewy goodies never fail to make them happy. It’s just so heartwarming to see their tails wagging and the joy in their eyes as they chow down, adding to the festive spirit. Yup, rawhides have definitely become a must-have for many dogs during Christmas time.
Small Treat
Our furry friends have been absolutely obsessed with the yummy bite-sized treats from Blue Buffalo (check them out on Amazon). My little dachshunds really enjoyed these soft and delicious treats, and sometimes, I swear they swallowed them whole just to make sure their sibling wouldn’t grab them. These treats were perfect for our travels, offering a convenient and tasty snack for our dogs on the move.
Dental Care Treat
We’ve been using Dentastix and Greenies (Amazon links) for years as awesome treats to help with dental care. Dachshunds, just like many small dogs, can have not-so-great breath. So, we’ve been giving them these treats in addition to their professional teeth cleanings to keep their dental hygiene in check. I haven’t tried it yet, but Greenies has a special edition for the holidays – a gingerbread flavor (Amazon link) that you might want to check out!
Blankets
Fleece
So, my dachshunds were totally into those fleece blankets, you know, they couldn’t get enough of them and would chew on them like there’s no tomorrow. That’s why I thought, hey, why not treat them to some new ones every Christmas? It’s a brilliant idea! These similar types of blankets(check them out on Amazon) are super cozy and will keep your furry buddy warm and happy whether they’re lounging on it or snuggling underneath. Back when my dachshunds were little rascals, I used to grab them some cheap blankets from Walmart (Walmart link), so it was no biggie if they tore them up with their chewing. If you’re on the hunt for a sweet gift for your dog this holiday season, think about getting them a nice, soft fleece blanket that won’t break the bank.
Bonus!
Looking for gift ideas for someone with dogs? One of the coolest gifts I ever received was a travel backpack for your pet (check it out on Amazon). It’s super handy for carrying food, medicine, toys, leashes, blankets, and even has space for potty bags and collapsible bowls for food and water. It was a lifesaver for our small dogs!
Another great gift idea for pet owners is a way to keep an eye on their pets while they’re at work. You could consider something like the popular Furbo, which lets you monitor your pet and even dispense treats remotely. Personally, I use SimpliSafe for home security and one of their indoor cameras to (Amazon links )check on my furry friends when I’m not around.
Conclusion
We’ve reached the end of our jump start list, but don’t worry, there are plenty more ideas to spoil your furry friend this season, just wanted to get you started. Remember to pamper your dog with some treats, new toys, and, of course, lots of extra cuddles to make this holiday season truly special. I hope these suggestions have given you some inspiration to show your canine pals how much you care about them.
If you also want to give this season to help other dogs, I personally follow National Mill Dog Rescue, which has a running wish list for products on Amazon they need to help care for the dogs they rescue and re-home. I do not get any commission for this; I love their mission! All dogs deserve a happy home!!
Happy Holidays!!
